Clarksville, Tenn. – With football slowing down in the Clarksville area – only Clarksville High remains in the playoffs – the shift is quickly turning toward basketball.

The 2019-20 season will official open at the end of November with the Hall of Fame games, but the season will have one final warmup when the TOA CMCSS Jamboree hits the Dave Loos Court at the Dunn Center Thursday.

All eight of the county teams will play in the annual jamboree, which serves as the final preview for the season.

Each scrimmage during the jamboree will be two eight-minute quarters. There won’t be any an overtime session.

Heading into this season, it will be the first time since the late 1980s Jimmy Young won’t be coaching the Montgomery Central Indians, following his retirement in March. Meanwhile, Young’s son, Sam Young, will begin his first season coaching the Northeast Eagles.

Sam Young had a phenomenal run at Houston County where he took the Lady Irish to a pair of state tournament appearances.

With Jimmy Young stepping down at Montgomery Central, the Indians program will be turned over to Mike Brown, who was an assistant on Young’s staff.

Another longtime area coach, Charles Clark, will begin his second season coaching the Kenwood girls’ program.

Clarksville Academy’s Lady Cougars are coming off a state tournament appearance, while senior forward Daniel Loos committed to Christian Brothers and is expected to help Clarksville Academy’s Cougars make another run at the state tournament.
