Samuels finishes second in Division II state tourney

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Clarksville Academy’s Patton Samuels finished in a tie for second place in the Division II state golf tournament.

Samuels shot 1 under during the two-day tournament played at WillowBrook Golf Club in Manchester. Samuels shot a 70-73 – 143, tying Franklin Road Academy’s Josh Holtschlag for second place, who shot a 71-72 – 143.

Cade Russell from CAK won the individual state title after shooting a 72-67 – 139.

In Monday’s opening round, Samuels started quickly going 2 under after nine holes when he made three birdies and a bogey. Samuels made pars on the back nine for a opening-round 2-under 70.

In the second round on Tuesday, Samuels had five birdies scattered around four bogeys and a double bogey. Samuels finished with a 35-38 – 73.

Over 36 holes, Samuels finished with eight birdies.

Last season, Samuels, as an eighth-grader, finished sixth with a 81-69 – 150.

CAK defended its Division II state title shooting a team score of 304-299 – 603. CPA finished a distant second shooting a 315-316 – 631. FRA was third with a 321-317 – 638.
