Lady Wildcats reach 10-AAA semifinals

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Clarksville High beat Northeast 45-29 in the District 10-AAA tournament quarterfinals Thursday, setting up a showdown with its biggest rival, Rossview.

Coming into the district tournament game, the Lady Wildcats won the regular season series against Northeast, 2-0, but knew a third win wouldn’t come easy.

Early, the Lady Wildcats couldn’t stop guard Ciera Browser, whose layup tied the game, followed by a steal and layup by guard Amaya Moore, to give the Lady Eagles an 10-8 lead.

After being down in the first, the Lady Wildcats went on a 6-0 run, with guard Erin Lackey putting Clarksville High up by five with a 3-pointer with 4:54 left. The Lady Wildcats continued the momentum as they ended the half leading 20-16.

The Lady Wildcats applied the pressure on the Lady Eagles with a half-court press. Macy Brown’s no-look pass to forward Mya Collins put the Lady Wildcats up 24-18. Guard Nariah Nicholson ended the third quarter with a 3-pointer to extend the Lady Wildcats’ lead to 33-25.

Northeast cut the lead to six as Browser made a layup, but the Lady Wildcats answered with a 3 as they went up by 10 with 2:34 left in the fourth.

Collins and Lackey combined for six points in the fourth as the Lady Wildcats pulled off the 16-point win. Erin Lackey had 14 points and five assists, followed by Mya Collins’ 15 points.

Clarksville High and Rossview will renew its rivalry at 2 p.m. in the tournament when it shifts to Springfield.
