Knights follow Williams in district win

By Matthew Wix

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Kenwood Knights relied on defense to beat Northeast 48-42 in a back-and-forth District 10-AAA game Tuesday.

In a game that came down to the final minute, Kenwood’s James Williams put the game away with a pair of free throws. Williams finished with a game-high 16 points.

Northeast took a 23-21 lead into halftime and had eight scores in the first half.

After the Eagles closed the half with a 10-3, the Knights were able to regain momentum behind nine second-half points from Williams. Kevin Mcintosh added six.

The Eagles were able to keep the game close with seven second-half points from Marcus Averhart.

The loss dropped the Eagles to 0-2, while the Knights improved to 1-1.

“We ask (James) Williams to do a lot for our team on both ends of the court, and they guarded him tough tonight,” Knights coach Jason James said.

The Knights will look to build on the win against Hopkinsville on Dec.3, and Northeast will look to bounce back from back-to-back losses with a 10-AAA game with Northwest Tuesday.
