Houston County heading back to state tournament

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Houston County will make its third straight state golf tournament appearance after clinching its third-consecutive region championship.

Morgan Robinson shot a 74 and John Stinson added a 78 as Houston County won the Region 5 Tournament with a 319.

The Irish also had an 82 from Mason Robinson and an 85 from Daniel Martin. Dillan Boone shot a 97, but his score didn’t count toward the team total.

The eight teams that will make up the Small School State Golf Tournament include Houston County, Alcoa, Signal Mountain, Upperman, Cascade, McKenzie, South Greene and Trinity Christian.

Last year, Houston County finished fourth in the state tournament shooting a 660. Morgan Robinson finished fourth overall with a 73-72 – 145.

In 2016, Houston County shot a team score of 662 with Morgan Robinson finished tied for 14th after shooting a 77-74 – 151.

The Small School State Tournament returns to WillowBrook Golf Course in Manchester with the opening round set for Monday.
