Eagles move closer to regular-season title

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Northeast had three players score in double figures as it beat West Creek 73-37 in a District AAA game Friday.

After coming off a 33-point win against Henry County, the Eagles carried the momentum against the Coyotes as they started the first quarter with a 16-4 lead. Junior guard Marcus Averheart scored seven of his 14 points in the first quarter, followed by Isaiah Furrior, who scored five of his game-high 16 points in the quarter.

Averheart hit a heavily contested 3-pointer with 5:45 left in the second quarter to give the Eagles a 30-point lead. Jaylen Hooks scored eight of his 12 points as he hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Eagles a 40-12 lead going into the second half.

Playing near-perfect defense, the Eagles held the Coyotes to 13 points in the third and 12 in the fourth quarter. Averheart made a layup and free throw with two minutes remaining in the game for the 36-point win.

The Eagles maintained the No. 1-seed in District 10-AAA, extending their win streak to seven games.

The Eagles will face Clarksville High Friday, as it looks to continue its winning streak and move closer to the regular-season district title. The Eagles are 13-2 in 10-AAA and 19-4 overall. West Creek is 5-8 in 10-AAA and 9-15overall.
