Eagles clinch regular-season title, win streak reaches 10

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Northeast junior guard Isiah Furrior scored a game-high 21 points to give Northeast a huge win, as it beat Clarksville High 73-52 in a District 10-AAA game Tuesday.

The Eagles won the District 10-AAA regular-season title for the third time in five years and secured the No. 1 spot for the upcoming District 10-AAA Tournament.

The win moved the Eagles to 14-2 in district play and 20-4 overall. Clarksville High is 12-3 in 10-AAA and 14-8 overall.

Northeast senior Ty Jackson scored six of his 18 points with a layup at the end of the first to give the Eagles a 15-9 lead.

Furrior scored 10 points in the second quarter as the Eagles’ trap defense held the Wildcats to 11 points, while building a 37-20 halftime lead.

After forcing a number of turnovers in the third with its halfcourt press, the Eagles built a 24-point lead following Jackson’s uncontested fastbreak layup with 1:57 left in the third. Northeast built a 59-25 lead going into the fourth quarter and maintained a 20-point lead the entire fourth quarter.

Furrior had a vicious block leading to another Jackson layup with two minutes left. Jalen Hooks scored five of his 13 points in the fourth.

The Eagles, who have won 10 straight, close the regular season at Lyon County Saturday. The Wildcats close their regular season against Kenwood Friday.
