CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — next man in is the first incoming freshman for Nate James’ inaugural Austin Peay recruiting class, with Drew Calderon from The Woodlands, Texas the latest Gov to come aboard.

Calderon hails from College Park High School, where he was a 1000-point scorer and District 13-6A Offensive Player of the Year as a senior after averaging 15.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 assists for the Cavaliers. He was a sharpshooter in his role, hitting 53 percent from the floor overall and 46 percent from beyond the arc.

The 6-4, 185-pound shooting guard was named to the Houston Chronicle’s Greater Houston third-team and was a Guy V. Lewis Houston Player of the Year nominee. In addition to his honors at the district level—he was also first-team all-district—Calderon was named both Class 6A All-Region and Academic All-State by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

As a junior, he was All-District 15-6A, averaging 13.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 44 percent from 3-point range. A high-IQ shooter with exceptional feel for the game, Calderon looks to provide facilitating and scoring for the Govs in James’ first season.

“Drew is a dynamic shooting guard that will definitely be a crowd favorite,” James said. “He’s fun to watch! He plays with tons of energy and enthusiasm that will soon become infectious to teammates and fans alike. His competitive nature and winning spirit reminds me a great deal of Grayson Allen, who I helped coach at Duke. Drew not only strives to be the best on the basketball court he also takes pride in excelling in the class room as well. I look forward to seeing Drew do great things at Austin Peay State University.”
