Barracudas take first at Summer Championship meet

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Clarksville Area YMCA Barracudas won the YMTSC Summer Championship swim meet on Aug. 10 and took home the season-winning championship trophy.

“We are so proud of each and every swimmer on the Barracudas team,” said Becky Lyons, senior program director at the Clarksville Y. “The dedication of our swimmers, our coaches and our parents clearly shows.”

For the season, which began in March and ended with the August championship, the Barracudas amassed 1,568 points to earn first place among the 10 teams that participated in YMCA Middle Tennessee Swim Club events.

In second place were the North Rutherford YMCA Tiger Sharks with 1,362 points, and in third was the Donelson-Hermitage Family YMCA Dolphins with 834 points.

The Barracudas sent 17 swimmers to the Aug. 10 championship event, which was at Pearl Cohn High School in Nashville, Tennessee. The team earned a total of 292 points for first place. The North Rutherford YMCA Tiger Sharks’ 15 swimmers earned second place with 242 points. The Scottsville (Ky.) Core Sea Dragons’ 10 swimmers earned third place with 221 points.

Hannah Thornhill, 13, earned four first-place ribbons; Selby Shipley, 15, earned three first-place ribbons. Madison Moss, 9, Janey Stevens, 13, and Millie Prescott, 10, each earned two first-place ribbons. Lilly Goodwin, 10, Mallory Kincaid, 12, and Kymberleigh Irwin, 13, each earned a first-place ribbon.

The girls open 200-meter medley relay teams took first and third place, and the girls open 200-meter freestyle relay team took first place.

“The swimmers are listening to the coaches and pushing themselves to be better swimmers and better versions of themselves every day,” Lyons said.

The Barracudas are coached by Tristen Reineccius and Hannah Oglesbee. They practice 4:45-7 p.m., Monday through Thursday at the YMCA, 260 Hillcrest Drive, Clarksville. Participation in the swim team is open to YMCA members and nonmembers.

Andi Athanasakis (9-10 girls): 50-meter freestyle 10th place, 50-meter breaststroke 10th place, 50-meter backstroke 7th place.

Brailynn Bryson (11-12 girls): 100-meter individual medley fourth place, 50-meter freestyle third place, 50-meter breaststroke third place, 50-meter backstroke third place.

Lilly Goodwin (9-10 girls): 100-meter individual medley second place, 100-meter freestyle first place, 50-meter breaststroke third place, 50-meter backstroke second place.

Mark Goodwin (13-14 boys): 200-meter individual medley third place, 100-meter open freestyle third place, 50-meter breaststroke second place, 400-meter open freestyle second place.

Sean Heuston (7-8 boys): 25-meter freestyle sixth place, 25-meter breaststroke second place, 25-meter backstroke third place.

Kymberleigh Irwin (13-14 girls): 50-meter freestyle second place, 50-meter breaststroke third place, 50-meter backstroke first place, 400-meter open freestyle third place.

Mallory Kincaid (11-12 girls): 100-meter individual medley first place, 200-meter open freestyle third place, 100-meter open breaststroke fourth place, 50-meter butterfly third place.

Madison Moss (9-10 girls): 100-meter individual medley first place, 50-meter freestyle first place, 50-meter backstroke second place.

Ekaterina Oelgoetz (9-10 girls): 50-meter freestyle ninth place, 50-meter butterfly third place.

Ignatius Oelgoetz (11-12 boys): 50-meter freestyle eighth place, 100-meter freestyle fourth place, 50-meter breaststroke fifth place, 50-meter backstroke sixth place.

Joey Perantoni (7-8 boys): 50-meter open freestyle fourth place, 25-meter freestyle eighth place, 25-meter backstroke ninth place.

Millie Prescott (9-10 girls): 50-meter freestyle second place, 50-meter breaststroke first place, 100-meter open breaststroke third place, 50-meter backstroke first place.

Selby Shipley (15 open): 50-meter freestyle first place, 100-meter freestyle first place, 100-meter backstroke second place, 400-meter freestyle first place.

Janey Stevens (13-14 girls): 200-meter open freestyle first place, 50-meter breaststroke second place, 100-meter backstroke first place, 400-meter open freestyle second place.

Brienne Terrebonne (15 open): 50-meter freestyle fourth place, 200-meter freestyle fourth place, 100-meter breaststroke fifth place, 100-meter backstroke third place.
