Barracudas capture May Flowers swim title

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Clarksville Area YMCA Barracudas won  the YMTSC May Flowers swim meet on May 11.

The Barracudas sent 13 swimmers to the event, which was at Pearl Cohn High School in Nashville. The team earned a total of 282 points for first place. The North Rutherford YMCA Tiger Sharks’ 14 swimmers earned second place with 252 points. The Scottsville (Ky.) CORE Sea Dragons’ 10 swimmers took third place with 170 points.

Hannah Thornhill, 13, earned four first-place ribbons. Mallory Kincaid, 12, and Madison Moss, 9, each earned three first-place ribbons. Kymberleigh Irwin, 13, Nahyeon Lee, 10, and Millie Prescott, 10, each earned two first-place ribbons. Selby Shipley, 14, Mark Goodwin, 13, Seokbhin Lee, 12, and Ishan Chakrabarti, 10, each earned one first-place ribbon.

The girls 200-meter medley relay team and the girls 200-meter freestyle relay team won first-place ribbons.

Andi Athanasakis (7-8 girls): sixth place 25-meter freestyle, eighth place 25-meter breaststroke, seventh place 25-meter backstroke.

Ishan Chakrabarti (9-10 boys): third place 50-meter open freestyle, second place 50-meter freestyle, first place 50-meter breaststroke, second place 50-meter backstroke.

Lily Goodwin (9-10 girls): second place 100-meter individual medley, second place 50-meter freestyle, third place 100-meter open breaststroke, second place 50-meter backstroke.

Mark Goodwin (13-14 boys): second place 200-meter individual medley, third place 100-meter freestyle, second place 50-meter breaststroke, first place 400-meter freestyle.

Kymberleigh Irwin (13-14 girls): first place 50-meter freestyle, third place 50-meter breaststroke, second place 50-meter backstroke, fourth place 50-meter butterfly, first place 400-meter freestyle.

Mallory Kincaid (11-12 girls): first place 100-meter individual medley, first place 100-meter freestyle, first place 50-meter breaststroke, second place 50-meter butterfly.

Nahyeon Lee (9-10 girls): second place 50-meter freestyle, first place 100-meter freestyle, fourth place 100-meter open breaststroke, sixth place 50-meter backstroke, third place 100-meter open backstroke, first place 100-meter open butterfly.

Seokbhin Lee (11-12 boys): second place 50-meter freestyle, second place 100-meter freestyle, third place 50-meter backstroke, first place 100-meter open backstroke.

Sreeja Maitra (9-10 girls): tenth place 50-meter freestyle, ninth place 50-meter breaststroke, eleventh place 50-meter backstroke.

Madison Moss (9-10 girls): first place 100-meter individual medley, first place 50-meter freestyle, first place 50-meter butterfly.

Millie Prescott (9-10 girls): third place 50-meter freestyle, first place 50-meter breaststroke, first place 50-meter backstroke, second place 50-meter butterfly.

Selby Shipley (13-14 girls): third place 100-meter freestyle, second place 50-meter breaststroke, first place 100-meter backstroke, third place 50-meter butterfly.

Hannah Thornhill (13-14 girls): first place 100-meter freestyle, first place 100-meter open breaststroke, first place 50-meter backstroke, first place 50-meter butterfly.

The Clarksville Barracudas are coached by Angel Powell. They practice 4:45-7 p.m. Monday-Thursday at the Clarksville Area YMCA at 260 Hillcrest Drive. Membership is open to YMCA members and non-members. For information, call 931-647-2376.

The YMCA of Middle Tennessee Swim Club events occur about once a month, year-round. The next meet is scheduled for June 8, 2019.
