By Jimmy Trodglen

Clarksville, Tenn. – Alex Poythress is back with the NBA team he was with prior to the 2016-17 season.

Poythress, who spent most of last season with the Indiana Pacers’ Developmental League team, was signed by the Pacers to a two-way contract Tuesday.

Poythress, who was Class AAA Mr. Basketball his senior season at Northeast, followed by a four-year run with Kentucky, was with the Pacers before being waived last season.

He spent the bulk of last season with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, the Pacers’ G League team, where he averaged 18.5 points, 7.1 rebounds and was selected to play in the league’s All-Star Game.

With the regular season winding down, Poythress was signed by the 76ers where he averaged 10.7 and 4.8 rebounds in six NBA games.

The 6-foot-7 Poythress played with the 76ers in the NBA’s Summer League before signing a two-way contract with the Pacers.

Poythress was undrafted following his collegiate career with Kentucky, but joined the Magic for the 2016 NBA Summer League. He signed with the Pacers and appeared in two preseason games before being waived and acquired by Fort Wayne.

Poythress also hosted his own summer basketball skills camp at Northeast earlier this summer.
