Govs’ soccer class includes two from instate

Clarksville, Tenn.  – Austin Peay women’s soccer team announced its 2018 signing class, Thursday.

First year head coach Naomi Kolarova has added five versatile players to the 2018 Governors’ roster. The incoming class hails from four different states, Tennessee, California, Washington and Alabama and are set to have immediate impact on all areas of the pitch.

Kaylee Kraft, a native of Kennewick, Wash., joins the Governors after being prepped under Chris Erikson at Kamiakin High School. She was four-year varsity letter winner earning First Team honors as a freshman and being named the Defensive MVP her junior and senior years. The star center back served as team captain her senior year and earned WSSCA All-Washington Class 3A First Team Defender honors as well as First Team Defender recognition for the Mid-Columbia Conference Class 3A.

Kraft played club ball for the ISC Gunners under head coach Alex Cunliffe helping lead the team to the 2017 Washington Cup Championship as well as serving as the team’s captain.

Kraft is the daughter of Kelly and Greg Kraft and has one sibling: Colby (15).

“We’ll be looking to add Kaylee to our defensive group of players to help bolster our back line.  She possesses good decision making skills on the ball and is a smart distributor. Defensively she will be strong in 1v1 situations and in the air, I’m very excited to see her play with our team this fall.” -Head Coach Naomi Kolarova

 

Rachel Bradberry, a native of Madison, Ala, was prepped at James Clemens High School under Erin Riddle where she scored a team high 26 goals in 2016 and 28 in 2017. Bradberry holds the school record for most career goals scored with a three-year total of 69, and was twice named to the 7A Alabama State Second Team. The forward played for Huntsville Futbol Club under Erick Chomskis, helping to lead the team to the 2016 Alabama State Championship.

Bradberry is the daughter of Chris and Kristine Bradberry, and has two siblings: Kevin (23) and Sarah (21). Her father, Chris, was a baseball standout at East Carolina University.

“Rachel is an attacking player that can score goals.  She has proven time and time again that she is an offensive threat anywhere within 35 yards of the goal, she is not afraid to have a go and take chances to create opportunities, I am very excited to see what she adds to our team as a freshman.” -Head Coach Naomi Kolarova

 

Gwynevere Cardinal hails from Spring Hill, Tenn., where she was prepped at Summit High School under head coach Clay Watson. Cardinal is a versatile player who has seen time in the midfield and defensive line as a fullback. At Summit, Cardinal was a four-year varsity starter, team captain, and Player of the Year. Cardinal scored the winning goal in Summit High School’s first playoff victory.

Cardinal played club soccer for the Tennessee Soccer Club under the direction of Kyle Roelke. She is a two-time State Champion (2013, 2016) and a two-time Regional Semifinalist. Cardinal was also a member of the Tennessee Olympic Development program.

Cardinal is the daughter of Rachel and Eric Cardinal, and has one sibling: Ellery (13).

“Gwynevere is a solid young player, technical and versatile, and is a good play maker from both midfield and defensive positions.  We are excited to have her join our program and add depth to our squad.” -Head Coach Naomi Kolarova

 

Peyton Powell of Franklin, Tenn., joins Austin Peay after four years of prep at Independence High School under David Cordero. She helped lead Independence to an undefeated regular season in 2015, and a first place finish in the 2015 Regional. The goalkeeper was a four-year varsity letter winner and voted to the All-District Team her senior year.

Powell played her club soccer for Tennessee Soccer Club under head coach Eric Bossman helping to lead the team to the 2015 and 2016 State Championship. She is a three-time State Finalist (2013, 2014, 2017).

Powell is the daughter of Scott and Andrea Powell and has one brother, Shane (24), who played collegiate soccer at Martin Methodist College.

 

Delanie McKeon hails from Eastvale, Califonia where she was prepped at Eleanor Roosevelt High School under Andrew Tillehkooh. McKeon is a versatile player who has seen substantial time as a forward as well as in the midfield, scoring 15 goals and tallying 17 assists.  McKeon embodies the ideal of a student-athlete being named to the Principals High Honor Roll and the Big VIII All-Athletic Team her entire high school career.

Mckeon played her club ball for Legends FC and also competed in track and field. She is the daughter of Jennifer and Tim McKeon and has one sibling: Connor (19).

“Delanie is a fast, tenacious player that likes to go at people 1v1.  She’s dangerous in front of goal but I think she will help us the most by bringing a sense of intensity going forward offensively from a wide position.  She’s not afraid to work hard and I’m excited to watch her in action with our team come August.” -Head Coach Naomi Kolarova
