Clarksville, Tenn. – A back-and-forth game highlighted the second regular-season district game between Northeast and Clarksville High, with the Eagles coming out on top, 66-64.

Clarksville High’s Devyn Bender finished with a team-high 19 points, going 11-for-12 from the free-throw line. Northeast’s Alec Kegler had a game-high 29 points, making all 11 of his free throw attempts.

With the win, the Eagles won the District 10-AAA outright regular-season title moving to 14-1 in 10-AAA and 21-4 overall.

Clarksville High fell to 6-16 and 5-10 in 10-AAA. The Wildcats have lost their last three games by a combined total of six points.

In a game that featured the Eagles against a Wildcats team trying to improve their position for the upcoming district tournament, the Eagles held a 35-33 halftime lead. The second half remained close as both teams increased the defensive pressure.

“I thought our game tonight and last game prior were very similar,” Wildcats coach Ted Young said. “We’re battling every possession. Our defense is still evolving as to where were going to be good on the floor defensively, and then this late in the year you start looking at matchups.

“You’re starting to look at other opponents more and what happened the last time you played them.”
